At ELAM, Trainees take additional qualifications in English and Maths over and above the core Level 3 qualification. This is because we know that to succeed (and excel) in all areas of the creative industries- to communicate effectively to a range of audiences and to analyse and present information- literacy and numeracy are vital.

English

In English we offer A-level English, a Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and GCSE Language. While A-Levels and GCSEs are likely to be well understood, many people are not aware of the EPQ and the value it has. The majority of ELAM Trainees take the EPQ (it has the equivalent value of an AS level) and use it as a way to powerfully communicate and create using their writing. See here for some examples of the creative writing projects Trainees have achieved using the EPQ.

Maths

Trainees at ELAM have the option of studying either the Level 3 qualification in core Maths or GCSE. Our programme of study covers all the key areas of Maths that help people in the personal and professional lives and covers Tax, National Insurance, budgeting, project planning, inflation and interest.
