ELAM's first "Future Focus Wednesday - In Conversation"

We had the pleasure of hosting our very first Future Focus Wednesdays “In Conversation” series with 3 of our amazing alumni who came in to talk about their journeys since leaving, and gave our trainees powerful insights on what it might be like for them once they leave college.

Many thanks to Loulou, Rainar and Flo for taking time to come!

Eliza Mai released her latest single, ‘Straight Up‘, on all major streaming platforms earlier this year. Since then, the young R&B artist has started to make some serious waves on the scene.

The song has received tremendous support from the BBC and has been played multiple times on BBC 1 Xtra by DJ Target. As well as the airplay, the single has been recognised by the Song Academy and the awarding body has decided that it is in their top 10 for Best R&B Song of the year (13-18 year old category).

Screen Shot 2020-06-04 at 11.16.04.png

After signing her first publishing deal weeks earlier with Kobalt, Phoebe ∆X∆ has now signed her first record deal with AWAL and she is in great company. The label’s roster currently includes Grammy Award-Winning FINNEAS as well as pop-sensation LAUV. Phoebe is truly the modern-day artist, adept in both songwriting and production, she fits in well with the ethos of this indie label powerhouse.

You can now check out her live performance of ‘Young Blood’, an original song, for our MSG Sphere sessions. This song was also included in BBC Introducing’s ‘Hot List’ in late 2019.

Phoebe had already started touring the UK, pre COVID, as a support act for artists such as Violet Skies and Sody, an incredible achievement for an Artist who has no official releases under their belt.

Everyone at ELAM is incredibly excited to hear Phoebe’s first release and you will be able to find it here at ELAMZINE the moment it comes out.

'Call Your Name' Music Video by Tora - A Celebration of Black Culture

Tora.jpg

Tora has been making some serious waves since her first release, ‘Vein’, in March of this year. On Spotify alone, the R&B artist has already attained over 1 Million streams, making her one to watch for the future.

Her recent release ‘Call Your Name’ has hit over 600k streams on Spotify in just a month and now that the official video has been unleashed, her career in music seems destined for further skyrocketing.

And in a time where the world is seeking justice for George Floyd and the ongoing injustice that black people are facing on a daily basis, this video seems all the more relevant. A clear and powerful celebration of black people and culture throughout history.

We will let the video do the rest of the talking, click below, digest, learn and enjoy.

Hurrican EP by Jasmine Jethwa - Music for the Body, Mind and Soul

JJ1.jpg

‘That voice!’ is often the remark upon first listening of Jasmine Jethwa. It holds the power to captivate and to move, a deadly combination in the world of Music.

Jasmine’s first release, ‘Running Circles’, was eagerly anticipated and did not dissapoint. The single recieved great support from national blogs and Radio. Jasmine was the BBC Introducing Artist of the Week on the Bobby Friction Show in February and has continued to have the track spun on air by BBC DJ’s such as Jess Iszatt and Huw Stephens.

The marriage of her silky vocal and the acoustic production truly enables the listener to escape. Jasmine recently curated a Spotify Playlist titled ‘Lost in Isolation’, which is fitting of her artistry.

Allow yourself to become truly lost, in the best way possible, now by giving the entire EP a listen now. Find a dark room in your house, put your headphones on, close your eyes and prepare to drift aw……
