Careers Programme Summary

ELAM’s mission is to diversify the creative industries with a guiding vision that every child growing up in the UK should see themself reflected in UK culture.

In our 10th academic year, ELAM is proudly one of the most diverse creative colleges in the UK. It's thanks to our amazing supporters that our alumni success continues to go from strength to strength. ELAM's employability skills and professionalism training will encompass a range of areas critical for success in the workplace. This includes communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. Looking at professional behaviours and attitudes, we believe that by instilling a strong work ethic, punctuality, and a commitment to excellence, we can prepare our students to meet the demands of the competitive commercial industry head-on. We will be working with the Creative Industries to ensure our Trainees are developing the attitudes and behaviours needed to succeed in the workplace.

Music

ELAM alumni and Trainees have received a Brit Rising Star nomination, a Youth Music Awards, a Royal Albert Hall Makers Award, Ivor Novello’s and numerous festival performances.

There are now 20 ELAM alumni signed to record labels that we know of with numerous others releasing music independently, as well as all of the successes securing the roles that go on behind the scenes.

ELAMs UUU event took place in June 2023. We believe it is vital to create a platform that connects our trainees to the public, industry and stakeholders. These UUU events help to showcase our trainees incredible work during the past year, helping to not only develop their skills but directly impact the next generation of creative talent across the UK. The next UUU is July 6th 2024.

‘Future Focus Wednesdays’ is a new programme which launched this year, it is a dedicated afternoon every week where Trainees come off timetable and spend time in Masterclasses, Workshops and drop in sessions. These are helping to improve Trainees' knowledge of how to navigate the music and creative industries, build connections, raise aspirations and ultimately, help them to leave ELAM ‘industry ready’.

TV/Film

Currently, 11 trainees have joined Ridley Scott Associates as interns. Due to RSA being a company that have multiple departments they give they interns the opportunity to flourish in all departments. Not just limiting themselves to their skills on just Films and TV, but the pre-production, the location research, how they pitch ideas for documentary, Music videos and so on. RSA not only benefit by seeing the next generation of talent, creatives, editors, directors but the excitement that they know they’ve played a big part to it.

Games

XYZ is a yearly programme run by Arebyte aiming at nurturing young talent to open paths into employment within the games & real time industries. The initiative is an ongoing collaboration with ELAM, focusing on developing trainees’ creative digital skills and encouraging critical thinking. Industry partners in the past have partnered with art collective keiken, and tracking technology studio TARGET3D. The two games developed by ELAM students invite the audience to a futuristic odyssey into the impact of advanced technology, revealing a world driven by the relentless march of progress.

10 Trainees from yr 13s are collaborating with the Arebyte Gallery and artist David Blandy to create an immersive experience featuring two games set in the same world but at different points in times. This exhibition will take place at the Arebyte gallery on March 7th, 2024.
